Tapered Drill Rod Features
Also named taper rod, tapered drill steels etc. This provides a hexagonal shank section to provide leverage for the rotation chuck bushing. It usually has a forged collar to maintain the proper shank striking face position in the rock drill, and a tapered bit end. Tapered rod lengths available from 0.6m to 3.6m in length (measured from the collar to the bit end).
All products are compatible with many products manufactured by Atlas Copco, Sandvik, Boart Longyear etc. All our products are widely used in mining, water well drilling, tunneling, quarrying, construction, and civil engineering projects.
Applications
- Mining: Ideal for underground coal mining and hard rock drilling.
- Quarrying: Efficient in granite, marble, and dimensional stone extraction.
- Civil Engineering: Used for anchor drilling, tunneling, and blasting holes.
- Small-Hole Drilling: Compatible with handheld drills, air-leg rock drills, and light-duty rigs.
Frequently Asked Questions
What types of steel materials are used for these tapered drill rods?
Our tapered drill rods are manufactured using high-quality, super tough steel alloys such as 23CrNi3MoA, 40SiMnCrNiMo, or 55SiMnMo, which are designed for robust performance in both wet and dry drilling conditions.
What shank sizes and models are available for tapered drill rods?
We offer Hex.19mm (shank sizes 83mm and 108mm), Hex.22mm (shank size 108mm), and Hex.25mm (shank sizes 108mm and 159mm) with taper degrees including 4.46, 6, 7, 11, and 12.
How are these drill rods protected against internal corrosion?
The rods feature a stainless steel flushing tube lining to prevent internal corrosion and stress-induced breakage. Additionally, a special anti-corrosion oil is applied to protect the flushing hole.
Are these drilling tools compatible with other major brands?
Yes, our products are engineered to be fully compatible with major industry-standard equipment, including models manufactured by brands like Atlas Copco, Sandvik, and Boart Longyear.
What are the primary applications for tapered drill rods?
Tapered drill rods are widely utilized in underground coal mining, hard rock drilling, granite and marble quarrying, civil engineering (for anchor drilling, tunneling, blasting holes), and light-duty small-hole drilling tasks.
What is the standard length range for the tapered drill rods?
Tapered rod lengths are measured from the forged collar to the bit end and typically range from 0.4 meters up to 4.8 meters depending on the specific Hex model configuration.
